MEET OUR FOUNDER

Dr. Andjelita Chendra

A classically trained pianist and accomplished flautist, Dr. Chendra earned her PhD in Piano Performance and Music Pedagogy at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and spent two decades performing and teaching across Europe.

Today she leads Cephas with a simple belief: music should be something students carry with them for life, a source of joy, confidence and meaning beyond exam results. She personally guides our higher-grade and diploma students.

When our daughter first started learning piano, she was quite shy and we were unsure how long she would continue, especially since both parents have no musical background. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had Ms. Cindy as her teacher for the past two years.

Ms. Cindy is always inspiring, patient, and encouraging during lessons. She has a wonderful way of making piano lessons so much fun for kids, which really keeps them motivated and engaged. She even goes the extra mile by recording videos to help correct and guide our daughter’s playing outside of class.

Her lessons are holistic and encompasses Aural, Rhythm and other aspects of musicianship. Dr Chendra has not only taught me how to play violin with proper technique, but also to love the instrument and music of all genres. She is deeply passionate, full of energy, and she truly cares about her students within and outside of class. She ensures her students are able to sight-read, practice techniques, learn at their own pace, and play the type of music that they love. She also ensures that her students are given ample opportunities to perform, by setting up year-end performances, pushing them to go for competitions and exams and facilitating extra practice sessions/purchasing of new violin and bow.

I had 2 weeks to prepare for my aural and sight singing examinations for my vocal ABRSMs and the teacher here gave me a set game plan with extra schedules, and I miraculously passed despite absolutely no sightsinging experience before this (apart from the O levels Music exam prep which was focused on music writing and vocal performance).

Though many would agree, but adult beginner should be given a chance too! I picked up my first violin lesson with Cephas at 32 years old. There was a lot to learn thus, I'm so happy to be given a chance to perform during the school's year end concert after less than a year of lessons!
